Crane Rescue Operations

What is the quickest, most efficient and safest method to access, treat and remove patients at a high-rise construction site? This class, based on years of experience to real-life responses by the Clark County, NV, Fire Department Technical Rescue Team, aims to provide attendees with the answers to these and other important questions related to the topic of crane rescue operations. Attendees will receive a plan that begins at apparatus arrival and concludes with the patient transport. Under the guidance of the instructors, attendees will properly rig a Stokes basket, fly on a crane, package and remove a patient.

Marcus Barfield has been in the fire service since 2001. He is with the Clark County, NV, Fire Department on the Las Vegas Strip. Barfield is currently assigned to Station 11 and is a captain on the technical rescue team. He has instructed multiple classes at local and national conferences.

Live Fire: Aggressive Fire Control: Flow Path and VES Tactics

The course will focus on controlling the flow path in a smart, safe and aggressive manner. Students will learn to control, isolate and understand live-fire behavior with specific focus on fire control, fire behavior and Vent Enter Search. Live-fire behavior experts from both Los Angeles County and Cobb County, GA, fire departments will work together to provide the students with a peak skillset for the modern fireground. This course will have three live-fire rotating stations and will be physically demanding.

Chad Christensen

Chad Christensen is a 20-year veteran of the Los Angeles County Fire Department. He assisted with the development of the fire behavior curriculum currently being taught to the department and serves on the Fire Behavior Committee as one of the lead fire behavior and fire dynamics instructors. Christensen is a California State Certified Senior instructor for Live Fire Training and is currently on the UL-FSRI Coordinated Fire Attack panel and was a member of the UL-FSRI Fire Attack technical panel. He has taught hands-on training at Firehouse Expo in Nashville since 2016.

Elevator Rescue Operations

**NOTE: Students in this class must attend a 90-minute lecture and 90-minute skills station on Wednesday, Feb. 26 to attend this program.** This in-depth class covers hoistways, elevator door anatomy, rescue operations and safety procedures. Attendees will work through stations that cover safely operating in machine rooms and hoistways, running an elevator rescue operation, rigging for a catastrophic failure of an elevator, door picking, and forcible exit for the trapped firefighter. The session will conclude with a systematic approach to an elevator emergency.

Steve Petcoff is a 23-year veteran of the Clark County, NV, Fire Department and is the captain of Truck 17, where he has worked the last 12 years. He is a former heavy rescue technician and has taught elevator classes for the last 14 years, including at Firehouse conferences, a multi-agency elevator rescue class in Contra Costa County, CA, and the Terry Farrell High-Rise Conference in Las Vegas.
